As a young child, I loved the aroma of freshly baked bread, cakes and cookies. My first job was being my grandmother’s “mixer,” and my pay was to lick the spoon. I went on to work in several ethnic bakeries including an Italian bakery, a Greek diner/bakery, a German Bäckerei and also a Jewish Bakeshop.
As I grew older and became more interested in the science of cooking and baking, my desire to learn became more serious and I joined the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago and followed my passion. This opened many doors to a career working with artfully crafted food and also led me to Napa Valley, California, where I attended the Culinary Institute of America. To round out my culinary education, I headed back to Chicago and attended the French Baking Pastry School.
My career in the culinary arts has enabled me to work alongside some of the world’s top culinary and pastry chefs, which has led me to envision and create HerBakery. From my oven to your table, thank you for taking this walk along a sweet journey with me.
